Kinematics and kinetic of linked system

The kinematics and kinetic linear system was the part of the assignment topic which contributed student to get the depth knowledge for the working of the linear system such as piston used in car's and and train engine.

This assignment layout certain objective's such as:

  • Study the motion of materials involved in the cylinder e.g piston, crank, crank shaft and connecting rod

  • To obtain data required for solving problems and apply it’s solution into working using computerized based engineering tools

  • Generate the graphs in order to study the motion of crank and piston throughout full revolution.

  • Calculating the velocity of the piston by using relevant formula and vector diagram, comparing the deviation change with experimental values

Further to demonstrate the change in velocity, acceleration and displacement the graphs were plotted in the experimental and theoretical method considering the

simple harmonic motion.

Comparing result with laboratory experiment

The results obtained by calculation and plotting graph are quite similar to the laboratory experiment. The piston used in the movement of steam engine train uses the same mechanism as the laboratory, both involves the principal of harmonic motion. The difference which set there linkage system apart from each and other are the net force required to make the piston move, in steam engine the burning of the coal release the heat energy which later on changes steam vapor’s, these steam vapors create amount of force in order to push the piston in back and forth direction while comparing the mechanism to laboratory experiment the student apply force to the crank to make the piston move back and forth direction.
